Start-up Pack Tips

Start-up packs include items that Franchisors will take payment for and organise and provide to the Franchisee.

Start-up packs cannot include items that are already included in the schedule e.g. training, document preparation fee, warranty fees etc.

Start-up packs need to have sufficient information to describe what the item is. For example, if uniforms are part of the pack the information “uniforms” or “uniform pack” would not be sufficient. An items information should detail:

  • The Supplier

  • Individual Price

  • Quantity being received

The start-up pack must include itemised prices as well as an overall price. This ensures that if the Franchisee does not receive certain items or, there is a dispute regarding the pricing it is easier to determine what amount needs to be reviewed and potentially refunded.

The overall price will be included in the schedule of the franchise agreement and the start-up pack will be included in the document suite for disclosure purposes. Therefore, it is important that a start-up pack list is provided and is reflective of the overall price that is to be included in the documents.
